As a Bristol wedding photographer, Coombe Lodge is a venue I have photographed many times, and it remains one of my favourite places to capture weddings. From the grand ceremony room to the gardens and countryside surroundings, the venue provides an incredible backdrop, but ultimately it is the people and the moments that make each wedding unique.

A Relaxed Approach to Bridal Preparations

One of the things I love most about wedding photography is that there is no single "right" way to do things.

Every couple is different, and every wedding day should reflect that.

For Erica, bridal preparations were a more private part of the morning. Rather than spending hours photographing the getting ready process, she chose to have just a few natural moments captured towards the end, including the final touches as her dress was being fastened just minutes before she headed down to the registrar.

I actually love this approach. For some couples, bridal prep is a chance to celebrate with friends and family and enjoy those quiet moments together without a photographer being present for every second. Your wedding day is about what feels right for you, not following a set script.

A Beautiful Ceremony at Coombe Lodge

The ceremony room at Coombe Lodge is a truly impressive space. With its grand character and beautiful surroundings, it created the perfect setting for Erica and Peter to exchange their vows.

Peter waited patiently as Erica prepared to make her entrance, standing behind the hidden wall inside the ceremony room before seeing his bride for the first time.

That moment of anticipation, the reactions, the smiles and the emotions are exactly the kind of moments I love capturing naturally. The best photographs often happen in the seconds before or after the main event, when people forget the camera is there and simply enjoy the moment.

The ceremony was a beautiful celebration surrounded by their closest family and friends, full of emotion, laughter and plenty of happy tears.

Confetti, Family and Celebrating Together

After the ceremony came one of my favourite parts of any wedding day, the celebrations.

Erica and Peter enjoyed a joyful confetti moment with their guests before gathering everyone together for relaxed group photographs with family and friends.

While group photographs are an important part of the day, I always aim to keep them natural and efficient, giving couples more time to enjoy their guests rather than spending their whole afternoon standing in a line.

Emotional Speeches and an Unforgettable Evening

The celebrations continued with some fantastic speeches from Peter, the best man and Erica's father.

There was everything you hope for from wedding speeches: plenty of laughter, some emotional moments and stories that brought everyone together.

After the speeches, Erica and Peter enjoyed some relaxed time with their guests before moving into the evening celebrations, including the cake cutting and their first dance.

From the quiet moments during bridal preparations to the laughter shared with friends and family throughout the day, Erica and Peter's Coombe Lodge wedding was a perfect example of why I love documentary wedding photography.
