When I got the enquiry through from Charli, I knew this would be special. Folly Farm in the summer is something else, overlooking Chew Valley Lake for an outdoor wedding in June is what little girls dream of as they grow up. That, coupled with golden hour, wandering through the meadows, drinks under the orchard - Folly Farm always delivers.

And when Charlie give me confirmation that they wanted me to capture their day - I also felt as I was living the dream.

Bridal Prep in the Suite

The day started in the bridal suite at Folly Farm, the room is quite difficult to capture in, if a photographer relies heavily on natural light as the room looks out on the ceremony space, there are plenty of wandering eyes and footsteps, so the curtains remained closed, but in the years of me leading up to capturing over 150 weddings, I’ve learnt to deal with any situation and here, a lower aperature, crank a few stops on the EV dial and if I need to, the Godox V1 Flash makes a rare daytime appearance. A few photos of Charli getting glammed up with her incredible bride squad, laughing away and drinking (carefully) Champagne, made the best images to set the gallery up - Then I made my way to the Grooms space to see how there prep was going…

The smiles were there, the laughs were there and the drinks were there, and they were there in there numbers but there was no prep and rightly so, it was too early so what were they doing? They had a floater (That’s a plastic ball, that gets taken by the wind with the slightest of strike for anyone who didn’t grow up in the 90s in Bristol) and we’re playing Headers and Volleys against the Cottage House. Perfect for photos!

Back to the bridal space, where Charli was all but ready and we arrange a first look with bride squad, who had yet to see her dress. I set the mirror up in the narrow corridor so I could capture Charli in the reflection and the reaction of the bridesmaids, it didn’t dissapoint.

Best day of my life Mike has managed to capture the best day of my life perfectly! He was a lovely guy on the day, who knew what he was doing and went ahead and did it so we didn’t have to worry about getting all the photos we wanted, and the pictures have come out perfect! 10/10

Outdoor Ceremony to die for

The ceremony took place outside, as most do during the summer (and spring/autumn) season at Folly Farm, the team are 10/10 to make a late decision and whip eveything in should they need to. (We had quick change of plan for a wedding in 2025 after a un expected downpour - Click Here). The ceremony space was set as Matt from Folly Farm, as always worked effortlessly to make sure it was looking as wonderful as ever and Jason running around making sure the inside space and bar is ready for the influx of guests.

Charli and Pats colour them was a vibrant mix of colours to really stand out and bring lots of energy to the wedding. The florist (Wild About Flowers) did an incredible job to put together multiple flower displays and bouquets, some of the best I’ve seen.

Once the boys were ready, they assembled at the top of the ceremony space, some nerves from Pat, the groom were there but he held together and eaglery anticipated the arrive of the bridal party.

One by one, the bridal squad took a slow walk down the aisle, before Charli and her father made time stop, as they elegantly walked down the aisle with everyone watching in silence. It was then Pat, couldn’t hold it on and broke.

Following some formalities by the registrar, Charli and Pat had a stunning readying from a close friend, who again, set off some waterworks from guests before the ring exchange took place and the first kiss as Mr and Mrs Davison.

Charli and Pat took 5 minutes to take it all in as I lined up guests for the confetti shot. I also took this moment to get the dron up, in preparation for the group shot. All the guests lined up, thumbs up given to the newlyweds and off they go!

Drinks Receptions and Group Shots

As the guests took the Pimms and Elderflower Cordial from the Folly Farm team, I was busy snapping away at the multiple candid opportunities. Canapes then arrived, and at that point it was time to try and gather some groups up for the formal shots. Charli was adamant that only a few were needed, she was more interested in people enjoying the moment, chatting, laughing rather than too many staged photos. A photographers dream.

Couple Portaits in the the extensive Folly Farm space

As with the family shots, Charli was keen for just 10 minutes of Couple Portraits so she could go about her day - Again, great call.

I appreciate the team at Folly Farm, and al venues for that matter to ensure I won’t delay getting the couple back from portaits that may delay any part of the wedding breakfast. I’ve heard horror stories from venues saying photographers have been 30 minutes late getting the couple back. Unbelieveably selfish. So on that note, I had the couple back ready to be welcombed into the main hall for their wedding breakfast.

Wrapping Up

It was time for the speeches, which were incredible as expected with laughs, tears and cheers from Charlis Mum, Pats Dad, Pat and the best men! As the evening went on, the sun was setting over Chew Valley lake and everyone strated to wind down, until the evening reception started and it all picked up again, after the first dance, late on into the evening!

What an incredible day for the best couple at one of my favourite venues!
