Melanie & Lucille’s Relaxed Rainy Wedding at Folly Farm

Melanie and Lucille’s Folly Farm wedding was the perfect reminder that the best wedding days are not defined by the weather, but by the people, the atmosphere and the moments shared together.

As a Bristol wedding photographer who has photographed weddings at Folly Farm several times, I always love returning to this beautiful countryside venue. Set within the Chew Valley, Folly Farm combines rustic character, sustainable wedding values and incredible views, creating a unique setting for relaxed, natural wedding photography.

And while the rain arrived early in the day, it certainly did not stop the celebrations.

A Cosy Indoor Ceremony at Folly Farm

The morning began with a relaxed bridal preparation. Melanie and Lucille kept things simple, choosing to focus on spending time together rather than having every moment photographed.

I really love this approach. Every couple is different, and your wedding day should be about what feels right for you. Some couples love having lots of getting ready photographs, while others prefer to keep those moments private and just capture a few key memories.

Despite the heavy rain outside, the atmosphere inside Folly Farm was full of excitement and anticipation. The venue's beautiful barn provided the perfect setting for their ceremony, with rustic timber beams, warm lighting and fairy lights creating an intimate and romantic atmosphere.

The weather simply became part of the story.

Natural Documentary Wedding Photography at Folly Farm

My approach is relaxed, natural and documentary-focused. I want couples to enjoy their wedding day without feeling like they are constantly being taken away from their guests for photographs.

Instead, I focus on capturing the moments that happen naturally: the reactions during the ceremony, the laughter between friends and family, the emotional speeches and the energy of the dance floor.

Folly Farm is the perfect venue for this style of photography. Whether the celebrations are taking place inside the beautiful barn or outside among the countryside views, there are so many opportunities to capture genuine moments and tell the complete story of the day.

The Rain Cleared for Beautiful Countryside Portraits

After the first dance, the weather finally changed and the clouds began to clear, giving Melanie and Lucille the opportunity to enjoy some time outside together.

The countryside surrounding Folly Farm looked incredible after the rain, with fresh colours, dramatic skies and beautiful light across the Chew Valley. Sometimes the unexpected weather creates the most memorable photographs, and those quiet moments after a storm can be truly magical.

Melanie and Lucille enjoyed some relaxed portraits together before returning to their guests to continue celebrating into the evening.

A Beautifully Styled Folly Farm Wedding

The styling of the day was beautifully brought together by Little Wedding Helper, with Kristen Butler creating details that complemented Folly Farm’s natural, rustic character.

The combination of the venue, the styling and the relaxed atmosphere made this wedding a perfect example of how personal touches and genuine moments create the most memorable celebrations.
